TwitterStars.com Podcast Update

Friday, March 21st, 2008

I just finished recording a podcast with @jacklhasa and @scarab to raise awareness for their Road Twit Project:

The podcast went well. My previous podcasts with @corilahners, @jfritsche, @Alexa, and @Fifikins also exceeded my expectations but for this podcast, I had set my levels correctly. This podcast will be much easier for me to edit.

I’m rushing to get the podcast with @jacklhasa and @scarab completed. I should have it edited and posted tomorrow night. There’s a sense of urgency because they will be hitting the road soon. They need support from the Twitter community. They are looking to raise $500 to get started on the road. I’m hoping that this podcast will convince the Twitter community of the value in their project and donate some money or mobile-networking equipment. It will only take 5 people donating a $100 each, for @jacklhasa and @scarab to reach their goal.

In truth, they will probably need more like a $1,000 so I am hoping a lot of people will get involved by sending them funds–even if it’s only $10 or $20–through PayPal.

Jack Walks the Earth, Like Caine from “Kung Fu”

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

@jacklhasa: I’ll just walk the earth.
@markdavidson: What’cha mean walk the earth?
@jacklhasa: You know, walk the earth, meet people… get into adventures. Like Caine from “Kung Fu.”

The following blog post was originally written by @darkgracie:

@jacklhasa and @scarab are going to hit the road (USA) in search of work, home and enlightenment. They are young and will probably never have this chance to experience this country as traveling writers. They will also be looking for writing work along the way if you can utilize them. Did i mention these two are highly entertaining?

I ask that you re-blog this and even contribute to their travels. Any amount is better than none. You can at least email them encouragement if you do not have the money or would like to offer a place to stay for a night or two.

Thanks!

Discussion With Robert Scoble About DM

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Robert Scoble and I have different views about the value of Twitter Direct Messages, private messages, and SMS. What’s practical and effective for me, is impractical and ineffective for him.

I believe that if Robert were to connect SMS messaging to his social networking messages, because of his massive following and popularity, he would very quickly become bombarded with messages and unable to respond appropriately. With email, he can respond to his messages, schedule his day, and still have a life.

I agree with Robert about Gmail. It’s a wonderful tool. He can filter, parse, and re-direct email in a way that is highly effective. Robert also mentioned to me that he has developed carpal tunnel from his previous use of SMS. I have little doubt of this. He’s very popular in social media and was also very gracious for taking the time to respond to me.

Scobleizer I hate Twitter Direct Messages. I hate Facebook messages. Why? Cause email is so much more flexible. I hate email too, but less than these.

mark1davidson @Scobleizer Have you considered using phone Text Messages? AIM, Twitter DM, and Yahoo can all forward SMS messages to your cell/smart phone.

mark1davidson @Scobleizer With new devices such as the Blackberry, iPhone, Treo, and the Nokia N95, you are always instantly in touch with the blog-geist!

Scobleizer @mark1davidson my iPhone gets Gmail. I love Gmail. So much better for doing stuff like this than private messages on social networks.

mark1davidson @Scobleizer My Treo and Nokia Internet Tablet also get Gmail. All my domains use Gmail as a gateway. Still, DMs over SMS, are even better.

mark1davidson @Scobleizer I’m a firm believer in the value of instant communication. DM over SMS allows people to easily contact me when and as they like.

Scobleizer @mark1davidson I +HATE+ SMS. I don’t use a phone with a QWERTY keyboard, so it’s VERY difficult to answer back.

mark1davidson My entire life is conducted over SMS. People are able to stay in touch with me instantly throughout the day with DMs over SMS.

mark1davidson Use your blog as an optimized press release. Get people on the internet writing about you and linking to your site.

mark1davidson I’m setting up a web site for my buddy’s credit repair blog. He’s getting copy writing, copy editing, Web 2.0 marketing, and web hosting.

mark1davidson One of my best Twitter buddies is @jfritsche. She is a professional copywriter and I credit her for inspiring me to write on Twitter.

mark1davidson What can social media do for you? 4 key objectives: establish Familiarity, Awareness, Comfort, and Trust.

mark1davidson As of 10 minutes ago, I refer to this as FACT-based marketing. It’s what sales and marketing is all about.

mark1davidson “FACT-based marketing, Familiarity, Awareness, Comfort, Trust. (Social media builds all.)” –@leahjones, summing up my new-media blurbs.

mark1davidson My podcasting partner is telling me that Greg Fitzsimmons mentioned our Twitter podcast on his Sirius-radio show last night. Thanks, man!

mark1davidson I’m a big fan of Dina at http://www.wordfeeder.com/a… She’s written some excellent articles on copy writing, even for us pros.

akaMonty @mark1davidson Aw, thank you SO MUCH! :) XOXOXO Feelin’ the love, all warm & fuzzy-like.

mark1davidson Some of my favorite new-media professionals on Twitter are @jfritsche, @Alexa, @shashib, @ponzarelli, and @leahjones, just to name a few.

mark1davidson Why would you want to hire @jfritsche to write *your* copy? http://twitter.com/jfritsche/statuses/771066710 Cuz, she freakin’ rules!

mark1davidson @Pistachio Twitter reminds me of going to a conference. Lot’s of conversations going on at once, one-on-one communication, and new friends.

mark1davidson This is another key-benefit of Twitter. Developing relationships with professionals whose opinions one can trust. Twitter completes me. :p

mark1davidson Checking out @realestateshows.com. @ResPres is a freakin’ genius! Seriously. Added him on Twitter last week. Behold the power of Twitter!

mark1davidson I’m reading a blog post on @Alexa’s site. She’s one of the smartest people I know. She graduated from Barnard (Columbia) in only 3 years.

mark1davidson I’ve been trading consulting with @Alexa for the last 6 months. @Alexa created the podcast for Zac Efron’s website and ran the site’s board.

ResPres @mark1davidson not sure how I could not favorite your last tweet.

mark1davidson Mark’s Blog Tips: Please consider adding a mobile link to your articles for those of us on tiny screens. For example: http://urltea.com/2xdi

mark1davidson I’m starting to re-tweet news on information relevant to what I post in my Timeline. This will also promote sources of news here on Twitter.

mark1davidson I’m also Favoriting posts so those who are curious about me, can get a better feel for what my Timeline is all about. I’m big on Favorites!

mark1davidson For those who don’t have a large portfolio of Favorites; it’s a good way to define who you are & share all the good stuff in your Timeline!

mark1davidson Mark’s Blog Tip: If you tend to write lengthy blog posts, please consider limiting the number of characters per line to about 60 or so.

mark1davidson Here is an example of great blog design. It’s easy to visually follow the text on screen. (Good articles too.) http://urltea.com/2xo7

mark1davidson What can social media do for you? A FACT-based marketing strategy: Establish Familiarity, Awareness, Comfort, and Trust.

mark1davidson @andrewhillman The key to Twitter is turning on “all @ replies” in Settings under the Notices tab. It’s like attending a convention online.
